Blackmagic Ursa 4K and New Studio Camera

It would have been impossible to travel to 2014 NABShow and not have seen or known about the new Blackmagic Ursa and Studio Camera. The Blackmagic Design exhibit was located in the South Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center and plastered outside on the wall was a larger-than-life picture of the Blackmagic Studio Camera at work. blackmagic ursa 4k As one ventured in the South door of the Convention Center, walking straight ahead, one came across the Blackmagic Design logo in large letters, framed on the east wall of the exhibit that was absolutely crowded with people like kids in a candy store. For a moment it seemed that the show was centered around this one space and that everyone had to get a look at these radically designed new cameras. blackmagic ursa 4k Several Blackmagic Ursas were on set up for hands-on experience as well as a makeshift lighted set complete with model for everyone who approached to play around with its controls. Watch the first video above and get a feel of what was going on that day. The EF and PL mount versions are due to ship in July however, the Broadcast and HDMI versions are still being promised with the latter version being one that is merely a camera body without a sensor but with an HDMI 4K input with mounting plate to connect any HDMI camera. blackmagic ursa 4k

Here’s what I like about this camera (taken directly from the Blackmagic Ursa page): Introducing Blackmagic URSA, the world’s first high end digital film camera designed to revolutionize workflow on set. Built to handle the ergonomics of large film crews as well as single person use, URSA has everything built in, including a massive 10 inch fold out on set monitor, large user upgradeable Super 35 global shutter 4K image sensor, 12G-SDI and internal dual RAW and ProRes recorders. Because the sensor and lens mount assembly can be changed, you can choose EF or PL lens mounts, or even a broadcast video sensor with B4 mount. This means you can upgrade to the latest sensor technology in the future and keep your investment in the camera body!
