BMPCC & Trunk Or Treat 2015 Highlights

bmpccBMPCC & Church On The Way Trunk Or Treat 2015 Highlights

The Church On The Way in Van Nuys, CA, hosts an annual free “Trunk Or Treat” on Halloween that reaches out to children, parents and the surrounding community. This video was captured using a Canon HG10 and Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera, and edited and graded in DaVinci Resolve.

The BMPCC accomplished the time lapse footage by using a Lumix 14-45mm f/3.5 zoom set at 14mm. For the bulk of the nighttime filming we used a Minolta 28mm f/1.4 prime lens with a Fotasy micro four thirds to Minolta MD adapter (no speed boost) under mixed sodium vapor and tungsten lighting in the church parking lot. The BMPCC’s 13 stops of dynamic range really helped get the shots we needed, while the Canon HG10 had the tendency to show much more noise in low light.

The run and gun style shooting was more easily accomplished by the HG10, and much more inconvenient for the manually-operated BMPCC with its short battery life. I chose to use the camera without any type of rig that was capable of holding an extended battery power source. This meant that I had to constantly turn the camera off to conserve its battery. By doing this, with all the activity that was going on, consequently, I missed the opportunity to get many shots that I would have liked to have captured by waiting for it to power on. Nevertheless, the footage that I did capture from the BMPCC made an appreciable difference in contrast to the HG10 footage, especially at night.

There was candy, popcorn, and cotton candy provided all night long for all, prizes given, games played, and a raffle that continued into the night until the event’s 8p.m. curfew. Music, dancing, laughter, and a safe place for children and their families to enjoy themselves without any difficulty, courtesy of the members of  The Church on the Way pastored by Tim & Deborah Clark, brought at least 1,300 visitors to this exciting event. The event was the personification of excellence and success organized by the Clarks, who we congratulate for having their finger on the pulse of the community.
