Sony Vegas Pro 13

Long before Sony Vegas Pro 13  there was Sonic Foundry Vegas. Coming from an audio background and being an avid Sonic Foundry Sound Forge user, the first video editing program I ever used was Vegas. At that time Sony had not acquired the company, and the user interface was very similar to Sound Forge so the learning curve was not steep. In fact, just about every editing program Sonic Foundry created was similar and based on a drag and drop interface. The best thing about Vegas was that it worked and it worked fast. Sony Vegas Pro 13 hasn’t changed the interface, and it seems that they have no wish to. The fact is that it still works. On the other hand, trying to do sophisticated edits are not this program’s forte. Yet Sony is making the attempt to keep up with the newer codecs and providing better export options for use with higher end editors which kind of makes one think it not possible to complete a project to perfection using only Sony Vegas Pro 13. Of course, it depends upon the type of project one is editing and its demands to decide whether Sony Vegas Pro 13 is the right fit.

This article by EposVox  points out many of the new features within this new upgrade and allows you to decide if it is worth the time and money. If you own an iPad, you might want to consider the program’s new feature called Vegas Pro Connect. It promises to simplify working on larger projects by somehow incorporating the iPad.
