Not every Mac computer is capable of using a 4k display or Ultra HD TV. Apple will let you know just what is possible with your particular setup. Not only does the hardware one is working with need to be considered, but also which operation system and version are critical for using 4k display with Mac. Look at the information that Apple is providing to find out whether you are one of the fortunate ones who has the right combination of hardware and operating system BEFORE you run out and buy a 4k display.

However, if you have checked out your present setup, and are ready to buy a 4k display at a fairly reasonable price,

consider the Samsung U32D970Q – 32″ 970 Series UHD (3840 x 2160). This display has some interesting useable features for any type of video or graphic setup when using 4k display with Mac. Take a look at these points:

  • Providing 4x the resolution of standard FHD monitors, along with Adobe® and sRGB color compliance, this 32″ UHD monitor is an outstanding choice when accurate content production is critical. Combined with seamless multi-screen functionality, you’ll discover an immersive viewing experience.
  • 32″ UHD (3840 x 2160) Ultra High Definition Business-Class Monitor
  • Highly Accurate Color: 99.5% Adobe® RGB and 100% sRGB Color Compliance
  • 11 Color Space Calibration Options
  • Quad-Screen, Split-Screen and Picture-in-Picture Viewing Capability,Minimalistic, Ergonomic Design

I believe that the Samsung U32D970Q – 32″ 970 Series UHD monitor had not been produced when the video below was produced, but watch this for another good opinion on 4k displays:

Also, don’t forget to check out the UltraWide LG Monitor post I made earlier on this site when considering upgrading your display. The UltraWide LG Monitor is a different kind of upgrade, but useful nevertheless. At this point, I think I am a little biased towards the Samsung though.

If you own a Mac, clicking the link below will save you time and money by allowing you to conduct the necessary research in advance.
